In the province of Cantabria, the price of single-family properties, chalets or rustic houses varies depending on the municipality where it is located, the proximity to the sea, the city of Santander and the type of construction. Against all odds, it is not the capital, Santander, where most of the province's real estate supply is located. Country estates in the province of Cantabria are normally inland and closer to lakes or swamps than to the coast. They are stone constructions, sometimes almost in ruins, full of vegetation, due to the northern temperatures and with enormous hectares of wooded land around them. This type of property is very suitable for agricultural or cattle farms.
The most expensive rustic properties are around 1,500 euros per square meter and are located on the outskirts of Laredo and San Miguel de Aras. They are constructions of more than 700,000 euros and have been fully rehabilitated, with a stately air and a plus of qualities such as spa, private pool, outdoor barbecue, central heating, and fireplace. On the other hand, the cheapest, for no more than 250 euros per square meter, are in a situation of abandonment. Also, on the outskirts of the municipalities, but in more remote areas, it is possible to find properties in Santiurde de Toranzo or Vegalosvados of approximately 50 meters. Even though some of them are missing part of the property such as the roof or some side, they have basic supplies of water and electricity.
Buy townhouses or a plot
The townhouses for sale in the province of Cantabria experience great inequalities between the cheapest and the most expensive properties. The most accessible square meter costs no more than 75 euros, while the highest is above 6,000 euros. The smaller properties are and/or have the appearance of farmhouses, the wood of the beams is in poor condition, but all of them have a basic water supply. They can be found in Ramales de la Victoria, Quintana or El Cerro.
On the other hand, the townhouses with the highest cost exceed 800,000 euros and are in Barrio El Arco, Sámano and San Miguel de Aras. These have more than two floors, rustic-style facades, a private garage, heating, and a fireplace, as well as a terrace and their garden. The cost of these properties also varies depending on the size of the property, the necessary work, the basic equipment, and the surroundings.
